Annual membership: Dues are currently $45 and due on the anniversary of the date you joined the VFW or the date of annual renewal. ($1.98 of your membership dues goes toward your VFW magazine subscription.)
 
Life Membership: By becoming a VFW Life member, you make a lifetime commitment to serving your fellow service members and veterans. That's something to take great pride in. You'll also enjoy many great benefits of being a Life member! You will:
  • Avoid annual dues and renewals.
  • Maintain your membership in any Post you choose, worldwide!
  • Never pay an increase in dues—Guaranteed!
  • Receive a 10% discount on exclusive VFW Store merchandise for the first year.

Lifetime membership rate varies by age but pays for itself in a little over 9 years at most! (less if you are older than 30). For a veteran age 30 and under, you'll likely have 45+ years dues free!

To be eligible for membership in the VFW, you must have served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces during a foreign conflict or overseas deployment (meet National VFW requirements). Once eligible, you can apply to join Post 2498. Please contact us or see our "Membership” page for the application process.

You fill out the membership application (we can provide the form), submit your DD-214 or equivalent proof of overseas service, and pay the initial membership dues. A member of the Post can assist you with the paperwork if needed.

Absolutely! Many members contribute in different ways, and your support (financially, by being an active member on paper) is still vital to the Post’s mission. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory.

No. VFW membership is restricted to eligible veterans.
 
However, spouses, children, and relatives may join the VFW Auxiliary, if they meet that organization’s eligibility rules.

Yes. VFW Accredited Service Officers (ASOs) provide VA claims assistance and benefits counseling to veterans, regardless of membership status.
